International break is over – we continue with the Premium Liiga!
The Estonia national team finished the FIFA Series tournament with a 0–2 defeat against Rwanda. In the opening match, the Blues defeated Kenya after a penalty shootout. The international break is now over, and we can refocus on Premium Liiga matches.
Estonia national team’s tournament ends in defeat
Estonia’s starting lineup in the mini-tournament final consisted of goalkeeper Kaur Kivila, Kristo Hussar, Mihhail Kolobov, Tanel Tammik, captain Erko Jonne Tõugjas, Sander Tovstik, Markus Soomets, Vladislav Kreida, Rommi Siht, Mattias Männilaan, and Karel Mustmaa.
The match began calmly, with Estonia initially enjoying more possession, but Rwanda gradually grew into the game. The midfield battle continued until the 30th minute, when Rwanda broke through on the left flank, and a sharp cross found Abeddy Biramahire in front of goal, who converted it into the net. Estonia soon created a dangerous chance, but Olivier Kwizera saved Mustmaa’s effort. In the 39th minute, head coach Jürgen Henn made the first substitution, replacing Tovstik with Joseph Saliste.
At halftime, Henn made two more changes, bringing on Rauno Sappinen and Patrik Kristal for Mustmaa and Soomets. In the 51st minute, Rwanda doubled their lead, as Leroy-Jacques Mickels scored following a corner kick. In the 59th minute, Henn introduced fresh legs with Michael Schjönning-Larsen, Ioan Yakovlev, and Kevor Palumets. Alex Matthias Tamm also came on late in the game, but Estonia failed to score, and the FIFA Series tournament ended in a 0–2 defeat to the hosts. Kivila, Kolobov, Tovstik, and Siht made their senior national team debuts against Rwanda.
Back to the Premium Liiga!
After the international break, Estonia’s top division, the Premium Liiga, returns this week with Round 4 fixtures.
One of the key matches of the round will take place on Saturday, when FCI Levadia host Nõmme United. The match will be played on April 4 at 14:30 at Sportland Arena.
Levadia approach the match in good form, having collected seven points from three games, placing them second in the table. Before the break, they drew 2–2 with Paide Linnameeskond. Meanwhile, Nõmme United have had a more inconsistent start, earning three points from three matches. In their last game, they lost 2–3 to Tartu JK Tammeka at Sportland Arena.
Both teams need points, and after the break, it will be interesting to see what form they return in. For Levadia, this home match is a good opportunity to continue their push at the top of the table, while Nõmme United will look to cause an upset.
One thing is certain – an exciting clash lies ahead.
