International Break Is Over – The Premium League Resumes at Full Speed!
The summer international window for the Estonian men’s A-national team has now come to an end. The friendly matches against Israel and Norway, held on June 6 and 9, are in the books, and the players have returned to their clubs. Already this weekend, the Premium League continues with Round 15 fixtures!
The national team gathered at the beginning of June, and although both matches ended in defeat, the team showed remarkable fighting spirit and development under head coach Jürgen Henn.
June 6 – Estonia vs Israel
FCI Levadia’s Michael Schjonning-Larsen started the match for Estonia, with Mihkel Ainsalu coming on as a substitute in the 81st minute. Already in the first half, it was clear that Estonia, having lost 1–2 to Israel in March, was eager for revenge. In the 31st minute, Mattias Käit gave Estonia the lead — with a brilliant assist from Schjonning-Larsen.
Israel equalized in the 39th minute, and the teams went into halftime level. The second half started actively, and in the 49th minute, Israel took the lead again. Despite strong pressure and solid defending from Estonia, some individual errors proved costly. The final score was 1–3, with Israel also converting a penalty awarded after Hein fouled an opposing player in the penalty area.
June 9 – Estonia vs Norway
Star-studded Norway brought a sold-out crowd to A. Le Coq Arena – tickets were gone even before kickoff. Once again, Michael Schjonning-Larsen started for Estonia. This time, no other Levadia players saw action on the pitch.
Norway had recently beaten Italy 3–0, so fears of a heavy defeat for Estonia were high. However, our national team showed brave resistance, and Norway’s winning goal came only in the 62nd minute – scored by none other than Erling Haaland. The final result was 0–1.
Premium League Returns – Hot Matches Ahead
The international break is over, and the Premium League is back in full swing. On June 14, FCI Levadia travels to face FC Kuressaare for a Round 16 fixture. Next week, two home games await: a midweek match against JK Tallinna Kalev and a charity game against Nõmme Kalju FC on June 21.
Tickets for the matches are available here.
